Charity Commission Information

The Southwell and Nottingham Diocesan Guild Bell Fund exists to assist parishes with the restoration of their bells.

Help can be provided in several ways both directly and through the Guild Bell Repair Committee:

  • Advising parishes on the best way to proceed with repairs, restorations and augmentations

  • Giving grants towards work being undertaken by approved contractors

  • Donating good quality second hand bells or fittings (when available)

The BF will consider giving grants for:

  1. The repair and restoration of existing rings of bells.

  2. The provision of new rings of bells.

  3. The augmentation of rings of bells.

  4. The provision of sound control systems for rings of bells.

Outside the scope of the BF:

  • Replacement of minor fittings (ropes, stays,etc.)

  • Repair work to towers.

The Bell Fund generally tries to give grants in the order of 10% - 12.5% of the total cost of work before VAT, but this depends upon the level of funds available to the Trustees at the time.

Donations to the Bell Fund are always welcome and can be Gift Aided where appropriate as the Bell Fund is a Registered Charity. Please contact the

The Guild Bell Repair Committee can provide insured physical assistance for the removal and installation of bells during restoration by members of the Guild supervised by members of the BRC and/or the bell hangers. If you are in a position to help with the removal or installation of bells etc. yourself, please contact the who will add your name to BRC’s list of volunteers.
