MANSFIELD DISTRICT REPORT 2007

Membership has remained fairly static with only two new members being elected during the year. At last years ADM the elected officers remained the same as in 2006.

Attendance at meetings was again down on previous years. This has been a continuous trend over the last few years and is a reflection of a declining number of active ringers. However, by alternating Saturday meetings with joint tower practices we were able to give support to practice nights and keep regularly in touch. As I stated last year, of the 80 members, it must be said that only about a dozen are actively attending meetings.

There was no Crawford cup heat this year and no team went through to the final. There was also no Quarter Peal Day this year. At the Guild half yearly meeting in November the District hosted a tower open day when nearly all the District towers were open. There were some 70 visitors during the day, some from as far as Cornwall and a magnificent £634 was raised for the BRF. I would like to thank all who helped and especially Paul Loxston who undertook the whole of the organization coping with the last minute unavailability of towers, and the arrangement of substitutes.

At the time of writing, two members are recovering from serious illness, Gordon Hill and Alison Nix. They have our best wishes and we hope they will both be well again soon. It is sad to note that John Webb husband of Janet Webb and ringer at Farnsfield, Trudy Richards, wife of Bryn Richards, and Barbara Ford wife of Rev John Ford, all passed away during the year. Our sympathy goes to all their families.

My thanks go to all that have helped during the year, fellow District Officers, incumbents, tower captains and most especially to the ringers who have continued to support events throughout the year.
